In March 2000, the city of Mayville was the
recipient of a generous gift from the Ted and Grace Bachhuber Foundation:
a 46,000 square foot aquatic and fitness center. Long time residents
Ted and Grace Bachhuber established the Foundation in 1982 to "support
programs and organizations that improve the quality of life in the
Mayville area." Their dedication to Mayville began in 1945
when Ted, with his wife Grace, founded the Mayville Engineering
Company, which has since grown into an international firm and remains
headquartered in Mayville, Wisconsin.
The Foundation gift is funding the acquisition
of 40 acres of beautiful land and the entire cost for the design,
construction, and equipment for the center. In honor of its benefactors,
the center will be named the Ted and Grace Bachhuber Aquatic and
Fitness Center and will be referred to as the TAG Center. Construction
for the TAG Center began summer 2001 and the grand opening is planned
for September 2002.
The TAG Center will have 46,000 square feet
of floor space. The beautiful indoor aquatic area will have a water-park
atmosphere with a 228-foot long tube slide, interactive play areas,
three lap lanes, and a current channel. There will be a fitness
center and a gymnasium with a suspended walking and jogging track,
along with two "party/meeting" rooms. The TAG Center will
have an open, airy, expansive feel, with glass, wood and fieldstone
enhancing the hallways and adding a rustic touch to the exterior.
The TAG Center will truly be "A
Place for Everyone!"
