Anticipation is running high at the University of Akron, where the vision for a new Student Recreation and Wellness Center is on its way to becoming a reality. The Sports Management Group worked with a planning committee including representatives from Student Affairs, Physical Education, Athletics, and Campus Planning to assess needs for facilities and programming. Input from students and faculty was gathered through a focus group process and a series of interviews.

The Sports Management Group has developed an architectural program, proforma operating budgets, and worked with Architects Moody Nolan on the conceptual design for the Center. Now under construction, the Center is scheduled for completion in the spring 2003. By then, the campus landscape will have changed to accommodate the center — Spicer Hall will be demolished — and today's students will have made room for new students, who will be the beneficiaries of the facilities and programs envisioned before the dawn of the new millennium.
