A long season and high valley temperature contribute
to the high demand for aquatic facilities in central California.
The fast growing foothill community of Folsom, CA, had only a shared
outdoor pool at the high school with limited community access.
The Sports Management Group led community workshops
and stakeholder meetings to determine community needs. Alternative
plans were created that could serve community needs and meet various
cost recovery objectives. In all, seven options were analyzed and
presented for consideration.
The Folsom Aquatics Center opened in May of
2001. The state-of-the-art facility features a family leisure pool
that includes a beach entry, interactive water play climbing structure
and a 165-foot-triple loop slide. This pool is designed with an
area for instruction for the beginning swimmer and an area for those
who can benefit from the weightlessness of water therapy. The facility's
premiere feature is the 50-meter multi-purpose pool, which accommodates
various events including swim competitions, water polo, and kayaking
classes. Additional amenities include a family picnic area, concessions
stand, locker rooms, and over 35,000 s.f. of social space.
