The delta community of Antioch, California is
a crossroads linking the San Francisco Bay region to the Sacramento
Valley. With a warm climate and beautiful river setting, this town
is a boater's paradise. In 1990, with a population of 30,000, the
City undertook an aggressive development plan, creating affordable
family housing that more than tripled the population in a 10-year
period. The new growth area created a demand for parks, schools,
a library, and recreation facilities to support the rapid increase
in new families.
The Sports Management Group services began in
1988 with the development of a master plan for a 109 acre park in
the growth area to include a 70,000-sf community recreation center,
library and family aquatic center. The Sports Management Group performed
a needs analysis, wrote the architectural program, developed revenue
and operating budgets, provided design review and planning services
for the operation of the aquatics center. The Prewett Family Waterpark
and Community Center, named for the family that donated the land,
opened in April 1996.
The Sports Management Group also developed a
strategic marketing plan for the WaterPark, designed and implemented
the print, outdoor and direct mail advertising campaign and sold
an innovative sponsorship program which funded the entire marketing
campaign.
