TSMG Turns 25!

25YearsofExcellence

This year marks our 25th year of service to communities, colleges and universities and we are celebrating!!

We have been privileged to work with over
400 communities throughout the United States and over 100 colleges and universities in this country and abroad. Over the years, we have been honored to work with outstanding staff who are making a difference in their community or institution. We have enjoyed working alongside thousands of members of the public, committee members, advisory board members, councils and trustees who shared their vision and entrusted The Sports Management Group to assist them in making it a reality. We also are appreciative of the many professional colleagues with whom we have teamed. We are gratified by the associations that span our 25 years and look forward to great collaborations in the future!

Oakland’s newest sports facility, the East Oakland Sports Center, held its Grand Opening to an excited and enthusiastic community on June 30th. The 25,000-sq. ft. facility LEED Silver certified project includes an indoor recreation pool with a waterslide, play features and a lap area for instructional programs. There is a 3,600sf fitness center, wood floor dance and aerobics studio, multipurpose space and meeting rooms. This highly anticipated project was many years in the making with funding as the biggest challenge to overcome. Though perseverance, funding for the $24 million project was secured from multiple sources, including $11 million from Measure DD Oakland Trust for Clean Water & Safe Parks, $6 million in Measure WW – East Bay Regional Parks funds, $3.2 million in Measure I Oakland General Obligation Bond funding, $3 million in State Proposition 40 funds and $2 million from the Oakland Redevelopment Agency.

The facility is designed with future phases that include a two-court gymnasium, an outdoor lap pool, and three soccer fields.

Congratulations Oakland!!

Happy Women's Equality Day

Today is Women’s Equality Day. The date was selected by the Congress in 1971 to commemorate the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. This civil rights movement by women that had its formal beginnings in 1848 at the world’s first women’s rights convention, in Seneca Falls, New York. The observance of Women’s Equality Day commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment and calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality. Women have come a long way…

Our founder, Lauren Livingston, was the first female Associate Director of Men’s Intercollegiate Athletics at a Division I university—- the University of California, Berkeley. In 1986 Lauren left the University and created The Sports Management Group, a certified woman-owned business. For 24 years, the firm has provided career opportunities for women (and men) in the field of planning, programming, design, financial services, market research, and recreation and sports facility operations. The Sports Management Group has completed over 500 projects for communities, universities, cities, and districts.

Happy Women’s Equality Day!
